IT’S WORLD AFRO DAY (WAD) 2017

Photography by Kenyan Story

I was very excited to hear about World Afro Day. (WAD). This, to me, meant that there is growing recognition of afro/textured hair not only in our countries, but across the globe. Today, 15th September, marks the inaugral World Afro Day. An event geared towards creating awareness and promoting appreciation for the the unique place of afro hair throughout the world will be held in London today. And even though you and I cannot attend this event, we can remain true to the purpose of this day by celebrating the value and beauty that is natural hair in kenya today.

This post is dedicated to any struggling naturalista out there; ANyone feeling inferior due to their hair texture, anyone undergoing discrimination at the work place or wherever they are because of their hair.

Twist outs are the most beautiful hairdos (or one of the best) on natural hair if done properly. When I did the Big Chop three years ago, I really longed for the time my hair would look great in twist outs. Last year, my hair was doing quite well and I actually did a video showing my twist outs using Raw Shea Butter and that is the last time I loved my twist outs….till this week 😉 A few tips have helped a long the way and why not share so that we can slay together? 😉

THREE BRIDAL WEDDING ACCESSORIES FOR THE NATURAL-HAIR BRIDE

The importance of wedding hair accessories on your wedding day cannot be underestimated. They set the mood and theme a notch higher and therefore you need to be careful when settling on your accessories for the big day. A number of things that you should consider when choosing your bridal accessories include: your wedding gown, the theme of your wedding, the hairstyle that you will choose, whether or not you are going to wear a veil, and what kind of jewelry are you wearing. Having been on the bridal line up recently and I had to do some research on bridal accessories. I got three that I have been using for sometime and it is safe to say that this post applies to the brides-to-be as well as a bridesmaid looking to glam up their hair with some accessories.

Casual Chic : Turban

Turbans! Who said they are only for bad hair days?  Turbans are also for my lazy hair days. I was tired of the same old kinda way of tying turbans and thought of spicing them up with my bangs .

CORNROWS 101

Cornrows by Just Margie

Over the last three years of being natural,  I have become a lover of cornrows as my go-to protective style for a number of reasons. 1. There are a variety of cornrows designs to choose from and therefore you can’t get bored of redoing them. 2. They are hairline friendly.  Unlike braids and twists, there is less risk of losing your hairline when you have cornrows done.  However, too much of it is again risky.
