I am definitely obsessed with floral pieces because I genuinely believe that what I wear reflects my mood- floral makes me feel happy, delighted, aware of my environs, grateful to be alive. This week, I read BikoZulu’s recent article, “There were birds, but they didn’t sing” and that piece not only broke my heart that such evil exists in the world 🙁 , but it also made me appreciate the little things I have taken for granted- the freedom of choice, the gift of life, the freedom to do what I want, to own what I want.
The article made me have a deeper sense of appreciation and also made me want to do more, be kind to others and spread a little joy. In a nutshell, the story is about a woman who has been through so much hardship, raped on her wedding day before her children, husband shot on the same wedding day, she and her kids were kidnapped for months all in the name of tribalism. She has been raped severally that she lost her worth. I cannot do justice to what is the story of her life by summing it up, no, read the article and you will learn how gruesome humans can be. I read it and had to take short breaks just to reflect and let the shocking ordeals of her life sink in. It is a real life story and I definitely recommend that you check that out- it will put things into perspective.
These pictures depict the joy and gratitude I have in my heart for the little and big things that God has given me 🙂 The chance to blog, the chance to walk freely in still be a little safe in a volatile place, the chance to live life to its fullest. I have taken for granted so many things in my life and though sometimes we get caught up in our struggles, it is good to pen down some of the things we are blessed with in life and thank God for them. With less than 60 days to 2018, I have decided to pen down some of these things on my social media account every single day and hopefully through sharing, you too will be able to take a moment and be reminded to not only say ‘thank you’ but also be kind to someone.
Kindness goes a long way. We dont have to agree on anything to be kind to one another. In a world where you can be anything, be kind. I want to be very conscious about this, about being kind. That I can still say no, and be kind; that I can disagree with you, but still be kind; That I can be angry, but still be kind.
Be the reason someone believes in the goodness of people.
If the words you spoke appeared on your skin, would you still be beautiful?
